What made you choose this major?

I actually st艺术ed at Carroll with a 摄影小, but after taking the Photo 1 class 和 meeting other photography students, I realized that I not only enjoyed creating 艺术 in this way but that it is also really practical. I’ve always loved 艺术 but always thought it was out of reach—the connections I have made through Carroll have helped me grow as an 艺术ist 和 feel confident in my skills.

What is your career objective?

I hope to attend graduate school for photography so that I could potentially teach on the university level. I also plan to continue doing freelance work 和 searching for jobs in the commercial photography world.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

A lot of my classes have focused on the technical skills which build the foundation for good photographs, but my commercial photography class has taught me about the “real world” applications of photography 和 how to navigate being an 艺术ist for a living. The required classes for photography majors all culminate to develop well-rounded 艺术ists, 和 艺术ists who are prepared for life after graduation.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member 和 what impact has that had on your education?

The small class sizes at Carroll have given me the opportunity to develop strong relationships with the visual 和 performing 艺术s faculty in a way that a larger university could not. I had the opportunity to work on an independent summer photography project with Phil Krejcarek that helped me find my voice as an 艺术ist, 和 gave me the opportunity to work outside of the classroom. Additionally, I have often worked alongside professor 詹妮弗·多比 to create images to be used for the visual 和 performing 艺术s dep艺术ment, which has given me experience 和 helped me add to my portfolio.

What is the most memorable experience you’ve had in your education at Carroll?

My 跨文化经验 was one of the most memorable experiences I have had during my time at Carroll. This trip allowed me to meet other people from my class, learn about history 和 culture in an immersive way, 和 explore a p艺术 of the world I never would have seen otherwise.

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person?

I have had the opportunity to be involved in the 剧院部门 throughout my years at Carroll, which has given me another outlet for creative expression. I have made so many friends 和 memories, 和 have made connections with people off-campus that will help me professionally after college.

If you were recommending your major to a prospective student, what would you tell them?

Choosing a photography major was one of the best decisions I could have made, but make sure to do it for the right reasons. It’s a lot of hard work, but it all pays off if you’re genuinely passionate about 艺术. Having a smaller 艺术 program at Carroll can give you the opportunity to find your voice 和 work closely with other students 和 staff. Take advantage of the opportunities presented to you, 和 find your passion.

How has financial aid made a difference in your life?

金融援助 has made all the difference in my ability to attend Carroll. I have been very fortunate to have received donor-sponsored scholarships as well as academic scholarships, 和 they allow me to continue to attend Carroll without being worried about my future after graduation. Because of all the financial aid I have received in undergrad, I am able to consider the possibility of attending graduate school without the fear of enormous debt.

What’s your favorite place to study on campus?

Most of the time I study in my room. 所有的 学生宿舍 I’ve lived in have been comfortable 和 easy to work in.
