What made you choose this major?

探索 an applied physics major 在卡罗尔, I took a few programming classes because I really enjoyed CMP112 and was not interested in engineering. I decided to switch majors because I felt I was better suited to computer science.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

I am in mostly introductory classes but I have learned a lot about working with people in a computer science field.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?

I’ve had a personal connection to most of my professors and all of my professors encourage students to talk to them one-on-one. The professors 在卡罗尔 really care. I have had my academic adviser as a professor for several classes and she really took the time to get to know me. Each academic advising session starts with a conversation about my life and career goals. My adviser was very helpful in 探索 other majors when I decided applied physics wasn’t for me as well. She has really become a mentor to me. Another professor that has made quite an impact on me taught the class I took for a general education requirement. He even knew I didn’t really like his class. Professors have to get from building to building too, and I often find myself walking with this particular professor heading toward my next class. He took that time to make a connection, show that he was concerned when he sensed that some of my dislike of his class came from circumstances outside of the classroom and took the time to listen to my response. I might not have enjoyed his class, but I treasured his teaching. He helped me through a really rough time in my life and all it took was a few short conversations. Carroll professors are like that. They take the time to see the person behind the student. 他们真的很在乎.

What’s one unique experience you’ve had relating to the coursework for your major?

My chemistry professor dumped liquid nitrogen on the floor so we could watch it evaporate.

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?

I am heavily involved in 唱诗班 and have taken at least one, if not two 唱诗班 classes, every semester I have been 在卡罗尔. I even tried voice lessons. It was a lot of fun and I was surprised that I could fit it in my schedule even though it had nothing to do with my major. I also have found that I have the flexibility to explore minors. For my major, just taking three extra math classes is a math minor. I have also been able to switch majors during my second year and will probably still graduate on time with one major and possibly two minors. Most courses are only offered in one or the other of the semesters, but you will be surprised by how flexible most majors are in timing and 探索 fun classes like 唱诗班 and art.

Why did you choose to attend 威尼斯游戏大厅?

我喜欢卡罗尔. It’s at the heart of a 城市 that’s just big enough not to be a small town but not so big that it's urban. Most programs are flexible with 探索 majors and minors and the professors are wonderful! Carroll was definitely the right fit for me. Not to mention the campus is beautiful.
